Born Johnson Joseph Agyei Greenidge III on December 25, 1988, JOHN G. is a Trinidadian singer-songwriter whose music embodies the vibrant heartbeat of the Caribbean. Rooted deeply in Caribbean Folk, Reggae, Soul, and World Music, JOHN G. has forged a sound that blends the spiritual consciousness of Roots Reggae, the contemporary energy of the Reggae Revival, and the storytelling intimacy of Americana Folk. His music has been aptly described as “Caribbean Roots”—a genre-fluid blend rich in love, resilience, cultural pride, and human connection.
Raised in Trinidad and Tobago's dynamic cultural melting pot, JOHN G. first made his mark as part of the Soca group Six Four Five, where his songwriting talents flourished alongside performances for iconic artists like Machel Montano, Destra Garcia, and Blaxx. In 2016, he co-founded Nex Chapta, a Reggae-fusion band that earned acclaim across the Caribbean festival circuit, opening for legends such as Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley, and Tanya Stephens, and delivering performances described as "deeply moving" and "elevating consciousness."
After Nex Chapta’s disbandment in 2021, JOHN G. embarked on his solo journey, honing a musical voice that is both powerfully personal and profoundly universal. His debut EP, "AGYEI"—named after his middle name meaning "firstborn" and "messenger of God"—is a four-track testament to his evolution. With production by Supayouth (Joshua Salcedo) and mixing/mastering by Jamaica’s Germaine "Big Beast" Ranglin, "AGYEI" captures lush, ethereal soundscapes that perfectly frame JOHN G.’s raspy, soulful vocals. The EP features standout collaborations with saxophonist Arie Van Druten and vocalists Shannon Z. Francois and Aneka "Ire" Audain, weaving narratives of healing, identity, and hope.
Beyond music, JOHN G. extends his creative influence into film, serving as Music Supervisor for the 2024 short film "The Tall Boy" by Life Garland, with credits listed on IMDb.
With 16 years in the industry and a voice described as raw, resilient, and resonant, JOHN G. is not just an artist but a messenger—bridging cultures, generations, and emotions through his craft. His growing body of work stands as a testament to the strength of Caribbean artistry on the world stage, inviting listeners everywhere to journey with him toward consciousness, love, and liberation.
